PEONY DREAMS

from £65.00

A fine art print of Peony Dreams, from the AYMARIE ART Icons Collection. (The one-of-one original is also available — see Shop Originals.)

A peony in full bloom is one of the oldest ways to talk about a woman without quite talking about her — her softness, her season, everything quietly unfolding at once. Read into that whatever you’d like.

The riddle: Poets have used flowers to talk about women for centuries without saying the quiet part out loud. We’re just carrying on the tradition.

About the Icons Collection:

The Icons Collection began in the middle of the biggest transition of my life — packing up everything in Thailand and moving my whole world (two dogs, one cat, and more emotion than I knew what to do with) back to the UK. I’d just stepped away from working as an online adult worker and thrown myself into painting, and then, weeks before the move, got so unwell I couldn’t hold a brush.

A friend of mine — I call her Panda — flew out to help me get home. Before we left, we set up five canvases and gave ourselves six minutes each, working in silence, moving between them one at a time, no talking, no plan. Whatever needed to come out, came out.

Months later, settled back in the UK, I came back to those five backgrounds and painted a single gold icon onto each one — an image Panda and I chose together, back in Thailand, as a private joke between the two of us. Look closely enough, and bring a slightly cheeky mind, and you might work out what they actually mean. I’m not telling.

This collection is what happens when something painful gets turned into something beautiful, and a friendship gets stitched into the paint.
